About LY Brothers Fine Art

LY Brothers Fine Art was founded by brothers James and Max Lawton-Yoder, whose lifelong passion for art began growing up in Southern California, immersed in the creative energy of Venice and the greater Los Angeles art community. Introduced to collecting at an early age by their mother, the brothers developed a deep appreciation for artists who shaped the region's artistic identity — particularly those associated with the Light and Space and postwar California movements.

As children, James and Max attended events such as the Venice Family Clinic Art Walk, where they experienced firsthand the connection between artists, collectors, and the public. Those early experiences led to opportunities to visit studios and meet influential California artists, including Peter Alexander, Ed Moses, Laddie John Dill, and others whose work continues to inspire the gallery's vision today.

The Gallery

Today, LY Brothers Fine Art is a social-first gallery and studio dedicated to sharing exceptional works with a new generation of collectors. Through online storytelling, carefully curated exhibitions, and direct engagement with artists and collectors, the gallery aims to make collecting more accessible while preserving the history behind each work.

Alongside its focus on postwar and contemporary California art, LY Brothers Fine Art also specializes in carefully selected antiquities and ethnographic art — including ancient Egyptian, Pre-Columbian, Classical, African, and Oceanic objects. The gallery seeks works distinguished by quality, provenance, and historical significance, creating a dialogue between ancient civilizations and modern artistic innovation.

Our Philosophy

At its core, LY Brothers Fine Art is built around thoughtful collecting, lasting relationships, and the belief that great art — whether created thousands of years ago or in contemporary California — has the power to connect people across cultures and generations.
