A striking late-career print by acclaimed California abstractionist Ed Moses (1926–2018), one of the most influential figures associated with the postwar Los Angeles art scene. Created in 1997, Red Dots exemplifies Moses’ lifelong exploration of process, chance, and visual perception. Against a deep black field, a luminous, galaxy-like form drifts diagonally across the composition, punctuated by vivid red circular forms that appear to float in space — both cosmic and meditative, rewarding extended viewing.

The contrast between the velvety dark ground and the brilliant red dots creates a powerful visual tension, while the ethereal central form evokes astronomical photography, microscopic imagery, or natural phenomena suspended in motion. Works from this period are increasingly sought after by collectors of postwar and contemporary California art. This example comes from an exceptionally small edition of only 18 impressions.

Ed Moses was a central member of the legendary Ferus Gallery circle in Los Angeles alongside Robert Irwin, Larry Bell, Billy Al Bengston, Ken Price, and Ed Ruscha. His work is held in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Whitney, LACMA, SFMOMA, and the Guggenheim.
