Titled Rainy Season 78 No. 3, this 1978 color lithograph is far more than a traditional print. Each impression was individually altered by Goode using a razor blade, creating subtle physical interventions within the image and making every example unique. This hand-worked element distinguishes the edition from conventional lithographs and reflects Goode’s longstanding exploration of atmosphere, perception, weather, and illusion. Produced and published by the legendary Cirrus Editions in Los Angeles, one of the most important print workshops in postwar American art.

Joe Goode is widely recognized as one of the most important artists to emerge from Southern California in the postwar era. His work is represented in major museum collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, LACMA, The Broad, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. His celebrated “Rain” paintings and prints are among his most recognizable works, combining minimalist imagery with atmospheric effects that blur the boundary between representation and abstraction.
